Tonu’s murder marks 1 yr Monday; family cries for justice

Dhaka – Although one year has elapsed since the tragedy, the killers of college girl Sohagi Jahan Tonu still remain traceless with family members expressing frustration over the investigation into the sensational killing.Tonu, a 2nd-year student of the History department of Comilla Victoria College and member of Victoria College Theatre, was found dead in a bush beside a culvert inside Comilla Cantonment on March 20 last year.UNB agencyTonu’s father Yaar Hossain, office assistant of Comilla Cantonment Board, filed a case against some unidentified people with Kotwali Police Station the following day.Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police is now investigating the killing, which had created a huge outcry, after thana police and the Detective Branch of police.However, the killing case is yet to see light although autopsies were carried out on the body of the college girl and the investigation agency was changed twice.Voicing anger, Tonu’s mother Anwara Begum said, “We’re tired of knocking the CID seeking justice. We don’t know whether we’ll get justice or not.”She also alleged that an anonymous caller asked Tonu’s father over their land phone on Sunday to keep silent, threatening that he will lose his job if otherwise.Meanwhile, investigation officer of the case CID’s assistant police super Jalal Uddin Ahmed said they could not carry out probe in November, December and January as there was army rehearsal then.He also said they were waiting for the forensic test report of several items, including sandals, a pen and the mobile phone bag, collected from by the body of Tonu.
