Tributes paid to Nirmal Sen

DHAKA: People from all walks of life Thursday paid their last tributes to veteran journalist and politician Nirmal Sen at the premises of Jatiya Press Club (JPC) and Central Shaheed Minar in city.On behalf of the President, his personal secretary Mominul Islam paid tribute to the noted journalist after the body covered with red flag had been taken to Shaheed Minar around 11am.
He was given a guard of honour by the armed forces. Later, his family members paid tributes to him.
Then, on behalf of the Awami League, Food Minister Abdur Razzak, presidium member Mohammad Nasim placed its last tribute to Nirmal Sen.
On behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, its Dhaka city convener Sadek Hossain Khoka and other leaders paid last tribute to the veteran politician.
Later the body was handed over to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSSMU) authority as Nirmal Sen had been donated his body.
Earlier in the day, different social, political and journalist organizations including National Press Club, Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union, Dhaka Journalist Union, Dhaka Reporters Unity, Sub-Editors Council, Press Club Karmachari Union, Kotalipara Press Club and Bangladesh Krishak League paid tribute to Nirmal Sen at Jatiya Press Club.
Besides, tributes also paid on behalf of the Information Minister as he could not come here.
On Tuesday evening, he breathed his last at LabAid Hospital in the city. He was 82.
Nirmal Sen was born in Dighirpar village of Kotalipara in Gopalganj district on August 3 in 1930.
He started his political career in 1942 and journalist career in 1959.
