Tuku, GS of BNP’s student front JCD, put on remand

Dhaka, June 20 – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka Wednesday placed Juba Dal Secretary General Sultan Salauddin Tuku on a 3-day remand in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station of the city under the Special Powers Act. Magistrate Pranab Kumar Hui of the CMM Court passed the remand order after hearing on Wednesday.
Earlier, on June 12, Investigation of the case, DB Police SI Muhammad Saiful Islam sought a seven-day remand of Tuku, but, in absence of the case docket, the court fixed June 20 for a remand hearing. Tuku was brought to the court on the occasion of hearing. The Investigation Officer told the court that the remand of the accused is necessary for quizzing the fugitives of the case and to collect their names and whereabouts.
Meanwhile, advocates Sanaullah Miah, Golam Mostafa Khan, Iqbal Hossain and others sought cancellation of the remand prayer and bail of the accused. The court rejected the bail plea and granted the remand prayer.
The case docket says that on March 6 at noon, BNP and its front organizations’ leaders and activists wanted to bring a procession from in front of the Jatiya Press Club after their human chain they interrupted police in discharging their duties.
Later, Shabagh Police Station SI Sujan Kumar Roy filed the case with the police station on the same day.
On June 12, Salauddin Tuku was arrested from his Uttara residence of the city. – Special Correspondent
