RANGPUR – A mobile court sentenced two ganja addicts to one year jail term each this afternoon on charges of smoking ganja openly in Melardanga area of Nilphamari district town, police sources said.The convicted persons are Babul Hossain, 40, son of late Nazir Uddin of Melardanga area and Mamunur Rahman, 33, son of Mokbul Hossain of Sobuzpara in Nilphamari district town.Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nilphamari Sadar Thana Shahjahan Pasha said police with assistance of local people arrested the two persons red-handed while they were smoking ganja there today.
Later, Nilphamari Sadar Thana police produced the arrested drug addicts before the mobile court of Executive Magistrate and Nilphamari Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabet Ali this afternoon.After hearing on the charges brought against the accused drug addicts, the learned court found them guilty and announced the verdict against them.”The convicted persons have been sent to Nilphamari Jail,” the OC added.
