A court of Dhaka on Wednesday awarded 15-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to two members of outlawed militant group Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
Judge ABM Sajedur Rahman of Dhaka’s Third Speedy Trial Tribunal handed down the verdict. The convicts Saiful Islam and Abdur Rahman alias Alal alias Fahad were also fined Tk 25,000 each, in default they will suffer two years more in prison. Besides, as the charge was not proved against the other accused Abu Taleb, he was acquitted.The case statement says that the convicts were nabbed with huge explosive substances including arms, 195 detonators and drugs on December 29, 2006.
However, as a police was killed during the drive and following the incident, four separate case were filed against the convicts. – Court Correspondent
