Dhaka, Aug 28 – Two people were killed and another was injured as a fire broke out following the blast of a sewerage line at Golapbagh in the city on Monday night.The deceased were identified as Sajal, 40, a scrap-metal shop worker, and Lutfur Matabbar.
A source at the Fire Service and Civil Defence central control room said the sewerage line went off near Matri Sadan Hospital around 7:30pm and this led to a fire.
Sajal burned to death in the fire while Lutfur died as a manhole slab fell on him under the impact of the explosion, said the duty officer at Jatrabari Police Station.
On information, six firefighting units rushed there and took the blaze under control around 8:55pm.
Earlier, the fire service said explosion of an electric transformer ignited the fire. – UNB
