Two to die, four get life term for murder

Dhaka, Feb 12 – The Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 of Dhaka on Monday sentenced two persons to death and four others to life term in the murder case of Khalilur Rahman, former Secretary General of National Blind Welfare Organisation. Judge Abdur Rahman Sardar of the Speedy Trial Tribunal passed the order.The death sentenced convicts are Ramjan Ali alias Ramjan and Tipu alias Hira. The life term sentenced convicts are National Blind Welfare Organisation leaders Minhaj, Hasanur Rahman Rubel (fugitive), Mohammad Shaheed Mostafa and Jahidul Islam alias Jahid. The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each. In default, they have to serve one year more in the prison.
However, the court acquitted National Blind Welfare Organisation leader Ayub Ali, visually impaired Nurul Alam Siddik, Sohag Hossain Hawlader and another visually impaired Yaqub Ali.
The brief prosecution story says that slain Khalilur Rahman had enmity with convicted Minhaj and Ayub Ali about election of National Blind Welfare Organisation. As a result secretary general Khal of the organization was shot to dead on January 2, 2011.
Later, the victim’s brother visually impaired Zahidul Islam filed the murder case with Mirpur Police Station of the city. Later, Police DB inspector Nibaron Chandra Bormon submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court against 10 persons.
The court gave the verdict of the case considering depositions of 14 witnesses and other evidences. – Special Correspondent
