UP election will be held peacefully: IGP

Dismissing any apprehension of any big incident on the upcoming countrywide Union Parishad (UP) elections’ day, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Tuesday said the election will be held peacefully without any big incident.“ I think the law and order will be prevailing normal. Some stray incidents might be occurred during the polls day as we had experienced in the past,” he said replying to a question after distributing prizes among the food ball player teams of DMP and Khulna Range police at Rajarbagh police lines field.
The IGP was present as the chief guest at the final match of Bangladesh Police Football championship-2015. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) team defeated Khulna Rang police team at 6-0 goals.
The IGP said as Union Parishsad election is the lower step election and there prevails tension as a large number of people (Voters) are involved there.
There was sporadic violence in the past but overall law and order situation will remain better, he said adding that steps have already taken to control the law and order situation.
The IGP further said that the election Commission gave as some directives, which we will follow them. In addition, we have some techniques in our own and we don’t believe that some big incident may occurred during the polling hours, the top police boss added.
Earlier addressing the function, the IGP recalled that the Bangladesh police football team had past glory. He asked the members of the police’s players to bring back the previous glory.
He also asked his force to perform better in sports sector alongside successfully protecting wealth of the people as well as ensuring internal security.
Among others, Additional IGP (Admin) Mukhlesur Rahman and senior police officials were present. – News Desk
