Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed on Saturday said upazila parishad elections will begin in February next. “Elections to some upazila parishads will be held in February in the first phase as their tenures will expire by the time. We’ve a constitutional
obligation to hold the polls,” he said while talking to reporters at the EC Secretariat after a meeting with officials of different
ministries. Rakibuddin said it is not possible to hold polls in all upazilas at a time as it will be a burden for the law enforcers and
other people concerned. ”We’ll hold the elections in phases.” He further said, “We’re discussing with different ministries on how and
when the elections will be held. We’ll take the decision as per the suggestions of different ministries.” Asked about the election
schedule, the CEC said the decision will be taken soon in this regard.
Four elections commissioners, the EC secretary, the education secretary, LGRD secretary, the Primary and Mass Education Ministry
