Verdict day fixed on graft case against MP Bodi

Dhaka-The Third Special Judge Court of Dhaka on Wednesday fixed November 2 for delivering verdict in the case filed against Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly accumulating wealth beyond his known sources of income. Bodi was elected from Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency.
Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of the Special Judge Court passed the order after hearing arguments from the prosecution and the defence.
On May 7, last year, ACC Deputy Director Monjil Morshed submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court. Later, on September 9 the court framed charges against Bodi in the case. Besides, the CMM Court of Dhaka had sent him to the jail rejecting his bail plea on October 12, 2014. However, the High Court Division granted the accused lawmaker six months’ anticipatory bail on October 27.
On August 21, 2014, the ACC filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station
accusing MP Bodi of amassing illegal wealth beyond his known sources of income. As per the First Information Report (FIR) of the case, Abdur Rahman Bodi submitted his wealth statement to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on February 23, 2014, mentioning his and his family’s wealth worth about Tk 5,2 crore.
However, scrutinizing his income tax return, the ACC probe found that he accumulated over Tk 16.07 crore in five years (2009-2013) and also earned wealth worth about Tk 11 crore illegally.
