Veterinary Society annual scientific conference opens at BAU

Mymensingh, Feb 23 – The silver jubilee programme of Bangladesh Society for Veterinary Education and Research (BSVER) was inaugurated at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Saturday.
To celebrate silver jubilee program the authority of BSVER and Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF) jointly organized a two-day long international scientific conference titled ‘Livestock in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’.
Pro Vice-chancellor of BAU Prof Dr Md Jasimuddin Khan addressed as chief guest while country team leader of Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Dr Eric Brum and dean of Veterinary Science faculty of BAU Prof Dr Nazim Ahmad presented as special guest. BSVER president Prof Dr A S Mahfuzul Bari presided over the program.
Emeritus Professor and former Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Dr M A Sattar Mandal delivered his keynote speech.
In his keynote Dr M A Sattar Mandal said, ‘Livestock products are the prime source of proteins in human nutrition. Livestock subsector contributes up to 40 percent of agricultural GDP especially in the developing countries. Capturing the economic benefits of the expanding livestock market can help to sustain overall economic growth. It has been well recognized that livestock sector has been crucially important in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Founder president of BSVER Professor Dr. Manik Lal Dewan honored with ‘Lifetime Honour Award’ on the inaugural ceremony. – BAU Correspondent
