The Victory Day-2013 was observed amid huge enthusiasm and jubilations here
yesterday with a fresh call for building a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Observance of the Day got a special dimension this time following execution of Abdul
Quader Mollah for war crimes to begin erasing the four-decade old stigma and shame
from the forehead of the nation in building a razakar-free Bangladesh.
The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RCC), different political parties
including Awami League (AL), student organisations, socio-cultural, professional and
educational institutions and freedom fighters (FFs) observed the Day.
The observance began at the zero hours with 31- gun salute at Police Lines Ground and
placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and Swadhinota Smritistambha ‘Arjan’ in
the city.
Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht, Additional Deputy Inspector General
(DIG) Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad, Police Super Abdur
Razzaque and Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Councilors placed wreaths first at the zero
hour.
Later, leaders of AL, BNP, Jatiyo Party, JSD, BSD, CPB, Workers Party, student
organisations, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Zila Parishad, Sammilito Sangskritik
Jyote, Ansar-VDP, NGOs, Rangpur Chamber, socio-cultural and professional
organisations, bodies, and commoners also placed wreaths there.
The national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings, the main islands of
roads, roadsides and various buildings were illuminated and decorated with coloured
miniature posters and banners and Bijoy Shovajatra was arranged.
The Divisional Commissioner took salute at the march-pasts and displays by FFs, police,
Ansar, VDP, BNCC, boys scout, girls guide, jail guards, Fire Service and Civil Defense,
children and students at Rangpur Stadium.
The District Information Office screened documentary films on the War of Liberation
while the veteran FFs and relatives of the martyred FFs were accorded receptions and
different competitions and cultural functions were organised.
Special prayers were offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of the martyred
of the War of Liberation, progress and welfare of the nation and improved diets were
served to inmates of hospitals, jails, shishu paribars, vagabond centres, orphanages and
shelter homes.
Swashswata Bangla Muktijuddha Jadughar observed the Day from December 8 to 16
while Mini Industries Development Services with assistances of Smart Eye Rangpur has
arranged month-long Bijoy Mela here under sponsorship of Rangpur Cantonment Board.
The district administration in association with Bangladesh Shishu Academy and
Shilpakola Academy organised the main discussion at the Central Shaheed Minar
premises last night.
Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht addressed the discussion as the chief
guest with Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad in the chair.
