Victory Day celebrated amid joy and enthusiasm in Rajshahi

The auspicious Victory Day-2013 was celebrated in the city as well as different parts of

the district on Monday with the call for completing the trial of the rest war criminals in

line with the spirit of victory day.

According to the sources concerned, this time the Victory Day was celebrated in a new

image in the wake of execution of war criminal Quader Mollah and through various

programmes amid huge enthusiasm and festivity today.

Scores of political, socio-cultural, volunteer, professional bodies and trade organisations

placed wreaths at different shaheed minars including Bhuban Mohan Park, Rajshahi

College, Talaimari, Rajshahi University, Police Line and Collectorate Building.

Earlier, the programmes of the day heralded with 31gun-salute at one-minute past of

last night at the local Police Line Parade Ground.

Mayor of Rajshahi Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul placed floral wreaths at Bhuban Mohan

Park first followed scores other including leaders of different political parties.

In the early morning, streams of people irrespective of age and sex thronged into the

city streets leading to the Shaheed Minars.

The programmes also included hoisting of the national flag atop all public and

private buildings, illumination and decoration of road islands, roadsides, educational

institutions and buildings with national flag and coloured miniature posters and

banners.

District administration organized by colorful march-past at district stadium with

participation of police, ansar-VDP, fire service, BNCC, scouts, girls guide, school, college

and madrasa students and members of different orphanage, safe home and cultural

organizations.

Divisional Commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed, RMP Commissioner Barrister Mahbubur

Rahman and Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury hoisted national flag and

took salutes of the march-past.

Documentary films on life and contributions of Bangabandhu, War of Liberation and

successes of the present government ‘Bangladesh Uttroner Mohajatra’ were screened

at different places.

Friendly football match, sports competitions and cultural functions were also organized

on the occasion.

Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places

of worship.

Improved diets were served to inmates of hospitals, jails, shishu paribars, vagabond

centres, orphanages and shelter homes for the elderly people.

Various educational institutions, including Rajshahi

University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi Medical College

and Rajshahi Education Board chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the

Victory Day.

Marking the celebration, recreational and amusement parks and other visiting places
