Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Tuesday urged the public to contribute alongside police towards ensuring maximum security of the people.
Mentioning that police have been ‘performing their duties risking their lives’ for security of the people, the IGP said: “Please install high resolution Night Vision cameras in every spot of the capital as part of contributing to the security system alongside police.” Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.
He was addressing a function inaugurating CCTV-based security system at the Jagannath University Auditorium. Lalbagh Division of Dhaka Metropolitan police organised the programme.
The IGP said that CCTV cameras are not a ‘luxury’, rather they symbolize security. There is no alternative to CCTV to ensuring the security of the people, he said, adding that offenders can be easily identified scrutinizing CCTV camera footage.
Mentioning foreign conspiracies against the country, the chief of police said, “conspirators from both home and abroad are trying to make the country a failed state. But we have foiled all the conspiracies.”
The IGP also urged the traders not to hike prices of essential commodities on the eve of upcoming Ramadan as well as the Eid-ul-Fitr.
He congratulated the residents of Lalbagh on installing 3,349 CCTV cameras urging them to install more in the area.
DMP Commissionar Asaduzzaman Mia also spoke at the function chaired by Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman. Senior police officials and local Ward Councillors of Dhaka South City Corporation were also present.
