A court here today sentenced a woman to death for strangling a minor boy of the village Thakurdaho Mandirpara under Gangachara Upazila in the district.Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 of Rangpur Md. Kamruzzaman handed down the verdict in a jam-packed court room.According to prosecution in brief, Mazeda Begum, wife of Shamsul Alam of the village tactfully took away Rummon, 6, son of Abdul Mannan from his house promising him to give a chocolate on July 23 in 2007 last.She kept Rummon confined inside her room at her house till the evening before strangulating him to death on the same day.The victim’s father filed a murder case in this connection accusing Mazeda Begum with Gangachara Thana and police arrested her.After investigation into the case, Gangachara Thana police submitted charge sheet to the learned court against her when the trial process began.After examining the witnesses and evidences of the case during hearing, the learned court found Mazeda Begum guilty beyond any doubt and announced the capital punishment to be executed by hanging her unto death.Additional Public Prosecutor of Rangpur Advocate Faruk Mohammed Rezaul Karim appeared for the state while senior Advocate Abdur Rashid defended the accused side in the case. -BSS, Rangpur
