Women’s progress not possible by misinterpreting religion: FM

Apparently in response to Hefajat-e-Islam ameer Allama Ahmed Shafi’s remarks about women, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Saturday said the progress of women cannot be hindered through the misinterpretation of religion. She was talking to reporters after a function at the local Circuit House marking the distribution of corrugated iron sheets and cheques of money among the poor.
Recently, in the social media, a speech of the Hefajat-e-Islam supreme leader was widely circulated where he made some indecent remarks regarding the women and likened them with mouth-watering tamarind (Tentul).
Strongly condemning the remarks of the Hefajat chief, the foreign minister said, “Whereas Quran asks women to be educated and education is a must to become a good mother, Ahmed Shafi says women need not to study after Class-IV or V.”
She urged all to be aware of those who want to keep the women inside four walls.
