Writ for setting up institution of Ombudsman

Dhaka – A writ petition was filed yesterday with the High Court Division of the Supreme Court seeking its direction to appoint an Ombudsman.Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akond filed the writ petition on Wednesday morning.
Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary, Speaker and the President's Secretary were made respondents to the writ petition.
According to the article 77 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, there is a provision to appoint an Ombudsman. But, no specific attempt has been made to establish the office of Ombudsman.
Once established the Ombudsman will have the power to investigate into any action taken by a ministry, a public officer or a statutory authority and such other institute as may be prescribed by Parliament. – Special Correspondent
