Writ to help heirs of 88 BAF officials convicted for mutiny

Dhaka, April 28 – A writ petition was filed with the High Court yesterday seeking compensation for 88 inheritors of some Army and Air Force officials, who were convicted during Ziaur Rahman regime in various term of sentences including death penalty by a military tribunal on the charge of mutiny.
A military tribunal had on October 2 in 1977 sentenced death penalty to 14 Air Force officers including the then Air Force sergeant Sydur Rahman and sentences other some officials of Army and Air Force on charges of mutiny and treason.
Advocate Motiur Rahman filed the writ petition with the related branch of the High Court on behalf of Kamruzzaman Lenin, son of Sergeant Sydur Rahman, and other distressed family members.
The High Court bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader is likely to hear on the petition today, lawyers concerned said.
The petitioners sought HC order on the government to compensate the distressed family members by providing government service in accordance with their qualifications.
The petitioners also sought HC directive on the government to provide all service benefit including salaries and pension till their usual retirement from their services. – Staff Reporter
