A young man was shot to death by some miscreants at Karaitala in Sadar upazila early Friday. The deceased was identified as Ripon Hossain, son of Helal Uddin of Baintala village in the upazila. The victim’s father said Ripon had gone out of the house after getting a phone call at about 1:00am. After hearing a gunshot, locals rushed to the spot and found Ripon lying in a pool of blood. Later he was rushed to Sadar hospital from where he was referred to Noakhali General Hospital but he died on way. Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station said the reason behind the killing could not be known immediately. Mohammad Alauddin, organising secretary, and Ismail Hossain, president of Mandari union unit BNP claimed Ripon to be an activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the party. Police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy. – UNB
