Youth’s bullet-hit body found in Jashore, one killed in ‘gunfight’

Jashore, Jun 30 – Police recovered the bullet-hit body of a young man from Kayemkhola intersection in Jhikargachha upazila headquarters on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Zahid Hasan Totan, 30, son of Aslam Master hailing from Krishnanagar village in the upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha Police Station Abu Saleh Masud Karim said local people spotted the body around 7am and informed the police.
Police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Jessore Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Totan was wanted in 27 cases, including of murder, drugs and kidnapping, said the OC.
He might have been killed in a gun battle between two rival groups over drug business, he said.
Meanwhile, in Narsingdi – A young man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with DB police at Shilmandi village in Sadar upazila early Saturday.
The deceased is Idris Mia, 28, son of Abdur Rashid of Chankha village in Nageshwari Upazila in Kurigram.
Officer-in-charge of Narshingdi DB police Golam Maroza said a team of DB police arrested Idris from Paiksha village in Palash upazila while attempting to snatch an auto-rickshaw on Friday morning.
Later, the accused was taken to the district DB office for interrogation.
After gleaning information from Idris, the team conducted another drive to arrest his cohorts around 2 am on Saturday.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, members of the auto-rickshaw lifting gang opened fire at the them, triggering a gunfight between them and the DB personnel , leaving Idris dead on the spot.
Police also recovered a foreign pistol and some ammunition from the spot, he said. – UNB
