17-day fresh remand sought for Shibir chief

Police on Monday sought a 17-day fresh remand for Islami Chhatra Shibir president Delwar Hossain in two cases.Police produced the Shibir chief before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Tayebul Alam of Dhaka with a seven-day remand petition in a case filed for exploding crude bombs while another 10-day one in a train torching case.
The court, however, fixed May 28 to hear the remand petitions. The court also asked the authorities concerned to submit a report on the health condition of Delwar before the court by then.
Police filed a case with Savar Police Station on charges of exploding crude bombs at Ashulia on March 3.
On the other hand, Railway police filed the other case on charges setting fire to a train at Kamalapur Railway Station on March 4.
The president of Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was taken on 45-days’ remand in various cases after he had been arrested from the city’s Shyamoli area on March 31. UNB
