2 witnesses testify in Eskaton double murder case

Dhaka-Two witnesses testified before a court here on Thursday in a case against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of ruling Awami League MP Pinu Khan, over shooting two people to death in the city’s Eskaton area in April last year.Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Nurun Nahar reordered the testimony of Monowara Begum, mother of victim Abdul Hakim and Salma Begum, wife of another victim Yakub Ali.
The court also fixed 28 June for next hearing.
Earlier on May 8, the court deferred the charge framing hearing against Rony for the 5th time and fixed today for hearing.
On August 13 last year, a Dhaka court accepted charges against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, in the case.
Detective Branch (DB) of Police pressed charges against Rony for the double murder on July 21, last.
On April 13, 2015, Rony, said to be in an inebriated state, allegedly opened fire on people indiscriminately near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from his car, leaving two people—rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub—injured with bullets.
Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 15 while Yeakub died at the hospital on April 23.
On April 15, last year, a case was filed with Ramna Police Station against unidentified people in this connection. Later the law enforcers arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence in connection with the firing on June 1, last.
