Dhaka-Narayanganj high school headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, who was publicly punished for his alleged offensive comments about religion, was forced to render his resignation, according to a government probe body report.The investigation committee also mentioned that there were confusions about the allegation raised against the teacher.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) submitted its report to the Attorney General’s office on Thursday for placing it before the court.
In its observation, the probe body said it seemed that Shyamal Kanti Bhakta had been at loggerheads with the managing committee of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar upazila over financial matters.
It said a vested quarter used the mike of nearby mosque on May 13 to instigate locals after raising the allegation of disparaging remarks against the headmaster.
The probe body described the statement of the Class-X student of the school who brought the allegation against the teacher as ‘confusing’, saying the headmaster was forced to resign.
The investigation committee also put forward a four-point recommendation, including further probe into the dispute between the headmaster and the managing committee, dissolution of the managing committee and reinstating the teacher as he was not duly removed.
Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju said three probe panels were formed to look into the incident.
The investigation committee formed by the DSHE submitted its report today while the two other committees — one headed by Dhaka Range Additional DIG Mahbubur Rahman and another led by Narayanganj Secondary Education Officer – are yet to come up with their reports.
The reports will be placed before the court on Sunday, he said.
On May 13, locals beat Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar area of Narayanganj for allegedly hurting the religious sentiment.
At one stage, local MP AKM Salim Osman forced him to sit up and down holding his ears.
Later on May 17, the school authorities suspended him on counts of charges.
