3 get 10 yrs in Sylhet robbery case

A court here on Sunday convicted three people and sentenced them to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment each for committing a robbery in the city in 1997.The court also fined them Tk10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more RI.
The convicts were identified as Babul Ahmed alias Babul Dakat, son of late Aslam Ali of Silam Sarkarchak village of South Surma upazila of the district, Nazmul alias Nazmul Dakat of Kanishail village of Magura district, and Khalilur Rahman alias Kutumona, son of late Abdul Goni of Koslom Nonodpur village of Magura.
According to the prosecution, a gang of robbers looted huge gold ornaments, cash Tk61,000 and other valuables storming a house at Sagardighipar in the city on October 3, 1997.
Later, the house owner filed a case against some unidentified people with Kotwali Police Station.
Investigation officer of the case Jalal Uddin submitted a charge sheet to the court accusing Babul, Nazmul, Kutumona and Kinu Lal on May 5,1998.
After examining witnesses and evidence, Judge of Sylhet Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court Ibtekhar Bin Aziz handed down the verdict against the three.
Accused Kinu Lal died while the case was under trial. -UNB, Sylhet
