3 picnickers killed in C’nawabganj bus plunge

Dhaka  – Three people were killed and 15 others injured as a picnic bus plunged into a roadside beel (water body) at Mohadanga in Chapainawabganj municipality on Friday afternoon.The deceased were identified as Ejant Ali, 65, son of late Hor Uddin, Abdul Karim, 35, son of Nazrul Islam, and Hashim Ali, 62, son of Rashid Ali, residents of Noyadiari village in Gomostapur upazila.Mahabub Alam Khan, additional superintendent of police of the district, said some 150 people of Moyadiari village were returning after enjoying a picnic at a picnic spot in Sadar upazila in two buses.When the picnickers reached Mohadanga, one of the buses skidded off the road and fell into the beel around 4:30pm, leaving 18 people injured.On information, police and firefighters rushed in and pulled out the bodies of Ejant, Karim and Hashim of the bus around 6:30pm.Eleven of the injured were taken to hospital, the additional SP said, adding that they feared that the death toll may rise.UNB agency
