38 BNP-men put on remand for Wednesday’s clash with police

Dhaka, Nov 15 – A Dhaka court placed 38 BNP leaders and activists on a 5-day remand each on Thursday on the charge of Wednesday’s clash with police. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharafuzzaman passed the in connection with the conflict of BNP leaders and activists with law enforcing agencies on Wednesday in front of BNP’s central office at Naya Palton. Before passing the order court heard the submission pro-BNP lawyers and some Public Prosecutors.
Three cases were filed against the accused in connection with the incident. The three Investigation Officers of the cases are-SI Sultan Kumar Talukder, Sheikh Md Jasim Uddin and Kazi Ashraful Haque. The Investigation Officers sought 10 days remand, for those who were put on remand. Besides, those who were not put on remand, IOs sought seven days’ remand for each of them.
Senior lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and many other pro-BNP lawyers sought their bail. Khandaker Mahbub said the incident happened for the provocation of the pro-Government elements.
Some of the remanded accused are- former Chhatradal leader Monoj Sarker, advocate Khalid Saifullah, Fahim Hossain, Zakir Hossain, Utpal Sarker, Hanif Uddin alias Rana, Mohsin Hall Chhatradal leader Mahbub Mia and many others. – Court Correspondent
