Some 61 Bangladeshi nationals, who were detained by Sri Lankan coast guard in February, returned from Sri Lanka.A flight of Sri Lankan airlines carrying the Bangladeshis landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday noon.
Earlier, Sri Lanka Coast Guard seized a boat boarding more than 150 people from the coastal area of the country in February.
Later, the country informed Bangladesh Embassy as they identified themselves as Bangladeshi.
After verifying their identity, the embassy officials found out that 61 were Bangladeshis out of the detainees and rests of them were Rohingyas, Foreign ministry director (Consular and Welfare) Iqbal Hossain told banglanews.
He added: “We took necessary steps to bring back the Bangladeshi nationals with state cost.” (banglanews2.com)
