President emphasizes ensuring quality education

President Abdul Hamid on Sunday emphasized ensuring quality higher education at all universities across the country.The President, also the chancellor of all universities in the country, stressed the need when three Vice-Chancellors – Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique of Dhaka University (DU), Maj Gen Mamun Khaled of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and Prof, Dr. M Alauddin of Moulana Bhasani Science and Technology University paid separate courtesy calls on him.
While meeting the Dhaka University delegation, Abdul Hamid gave directives to take steps for ensuring quality higher education maintaining international standard with a view to make the graduate fit to compete with the globalised world.
The DU VC apprised the President of various academic and development activities as well as existing problems of the elite public university in the country.
President Abdul Hamid gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured his all out cooperation for the development of the Dhaka University.
During a separate meeting, BUP VC Maj Gen Mamun Khaled informed the President about various service oriented activities of the institutes under the BUP.
President Abdul Hamid expressed satisfaction over the activities of the BUP and put emphasis on increasing and extending social service oriented activities of the different institutes under the BUP to benefit more common people.
The President also gave suggestion for increasing capacity of the general hospital of the Armed Forces Medical College under the BUP so the common people get better healthcare services.
He observed that the Armed Forces Medical College Hospital with large capacity can reduce the huge pressure of patients on the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and other general hospitals.
Dr M Alauddin, VC of Moulana Bhasani Science and Technology University, also apprised the President of various academic activities of the university during another meeting.
He sought cooperation of the President for improving infrastructure facilities of the university, being comparatively new with only 3,000 students under five faculties.
President Abdul Hamid assured his cooperation in increasing the infrastructure facilities of the universities for enrolling more students as well as ensuring education-friendly environment at the campus.
