7 fishermen abducted in Barguna

Barguna  – In separate incidents, seven fishermen were abducted by forest robbers from the Bay in Patharghata upazila early
Wednesday.Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of Barguna District Fisheries Trawler Owners Association, said a group of fishermen went to Narikelbaria and Dudhmukhi canal points of the Bay of Bengal for catching fish in the early hours on Wednesday.
At one stage, the members of two groups of forest robber gangs – ‘Zero’ and ‘Shanta Bahini’ — swooped on their trawlers and abducted seven fishermen, demanding Tk 50,000 as ransom for each of them.The kidnapped fishermen are: Billal Hossain, Zafar Mia, Badal Kobiraj, Siraj , Fazlu Mia, Shahjahan and Idris, all hailing from Patharghata upazila.Operation officer of Coast Guard (West Zone) Lt Commander Fariduzzaman said the coast guard members from Supti, Kokil Moni and Dublar Char camps have started a rescue operation in this connection.(UNB)
