A Dhaka Court on Monday recorded the confessional statement of Mufti Jasim Uddin Rahmani, chief of Ansarullah Bangla Team about his involvement with blogger Rajib murder.
Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka recorded the statement after Investigation Officer and Detective Branch (DB) Police Inspector Mainuddin produced him to his court to record the statement. Later the court passed orders to send Jasim to jail.
On August 29, other four members of the extremist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team- Abu Hanif, Asaduzzaman, Ali Azad and Aminul Islam made confessions in the same case admitting their involvement with the killing. They are now in jail.
On August 27, Mufti Jasim was placed on a seven-day remand in the blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider murder case.
Jasim was shown arrested in both Rajib murder case filed with Pallabi Police Station and in the other case filed with West Uttara Police Station for assassination attempt on blogger Asif Mohiuddin.
On August 12, some 31 members of Ansarullah Bangla Team including Jasim Uddi Rahmani were arrested from Barguna district, while they were allegedly holding a secret meeting in a house at Khajurtola on the outskirts of Barguna town.
Police allegedly recovered a computer, a laptop, books and over 50 CDs from Jasim’s residence and office in Mohammadpur of the capital.
Police also recovered a hit-list containing the names of 12 people, including two ministers of the ruling Awami League Government, blogger Rajib and Asif.
Ganajagaran Mancha activist Rajib Haider was killed on February 15 in front of his residence at Mirpur of the city. – Court Correspondent
