SAARC cabinet secretaries meet in Dhaka Saturday

The second meeting of the SAARC Cabinet Secretaries will begin at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in Dhaka today (Saturday).
The cabinet secretaries from Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the host Bangladesh are participating in the two-day meeting.
An 8-member delegation of Bangladesh headed by the Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan will attend the meeting.
Sources said the second meeting of SAARC Cabinet Secretaries would identify the priority areas for regional cooperation among South Asian countries and discuss ways and means for further collaboration.The meeting will focus on administrative reforms, good governance, capacity building, improvement of services delivery and major activities of their respective countries and share best practices in these areas, sources added.
The SAARC Cabinet Secretaries meeting is also expected to contribute significantly towards enhancing regional cooperation in various fields in South Asia.
The unique position in the government-wide responsibilities of the Cabinet Secretaries can play a critical role in promoting regional cooperation, particularly in functional levels, says a press release issued by the PID.
The meeting will commence with the Cabinet Secretaries, along with the SAARC Secretary General, by calling on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban in the morning.
The Prime Minister is expected to provide guidance to the delegates in this regard. Bangladesh is hosting a cultural programme and a dinner at a local hotel on Saturday evening in honour of the delegates. The cultural programme will reflect the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Bangladesh, said the press release. – Staff Reporter
