ACC chairman warns its officials against graft

Dhaka – Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Iqbal Mahmood on Thursday warned its officials that stern actions will be taken if any graft allegation is found against them.
“In 2016, some steps were taken against our several officials based on intelligent reports…if any allegation of moral turpitude is found against ACC officials, we’ll take stringent measures,” he told a workshop.
The Commission arranged the workshop on its five-year strategic work plan at its conference room in the capital where ACC director generals, directors and deputy directors were present.
Iqbal Mahmood said the national anti-graft agency will show zero tolerance to corruption and no corrupt will be spared.
“This is a year of transparency. We must remember all information could be made available through using ICT. That’s why if the Commission gets any documentary evidence of graft, it’ll file cases against graft suspects as per rules,” he cautioned.
Noting that the 2017 will be a tough year for the Commission, the ACC chief said as per media reports, general people have started keeping trust in the Commission and it is happening due to its activities. “But, we have to remember that people’s trust could be affected by any immoral work of a single official of the Commission,” he added.
He said the Commission’s all works should be people-friendly ones and if the ACC fails to ensure integrity inside itself, its fight against corruption will be a mockery.
ACC commissioners Dr Nasir Uddin Ahmed and AFM Aminul Islam and its secretary Abu M Mustafa Kamal, among others, spoke at the workshop. -UNB
