AL, BCL leaders force-stop recruitment test at RU campus

Rajshahi – Some leaders and activists of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its student affiliate Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Rajshahi city unit and Rajshahi University (RU) unit have forced the postponement of a recruitment test at the university.

Campus sources said that on Friday at 9.30 a group of RU unit BCL activists led led by its president Golam Kibria and general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu staged demonstrations on the campus demanding cancellation of the test and put the main entrance of the fourth Science Bhaban of the university under lock and key. Then they drove out all candidates who came to attend the test.
Some 30 local Awami League leaders and activists led by Alauddin Ali, president of Mothihar thana unit allegedly locked different gates of the campus. They staged demonstration against university administration inside and outside of the campus, chased the candidates who were trying to enter the campus.
A tense situation has been prevailing at campus and its surrounding area while job-seekers are panicked due to fear of attack by the ruling party`s activists, sources said.
Sources claimed that earlier Thursday night some AL activists threatened the university Pro Vice chancellor Prof. Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan Sajol and Prof. Khademul Islam Molla, administrator of University computer center, demanding stoppage of recruitment test on Friday. Even they received death threat along with their family members. A group of AL city unit activists on Thursday at 11.20pm allegedly made such threat to the Pro-VC at his residence of Tikapara in the city.
Both confirmed the news of threat but Humayun Kabir, Officer-in- Charge (OC) of Motihar police station told the reporters no written complant came from the two administrators yet.
In a reaction Pro-VC Prof. Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan said that as per university job rules the RU authority published an advertisement on October 23 seeking to filll some some posts of employees against vacant posts. For this they took all preparation to hold the written test and viva test on Friday against 27 posts (Third and Fourth Grades) in three categories. There were 3,220 candidates are. But some outsiders foiled the scheduled tests.
Mentionably, on Wednesday local Awami League leaders and activists had stopped the viva-voce of a recruitment test of a university school. – RU Correspondent
