All-party participation needed for acceptable polls: Minister

Food and Disaster Management Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque on Sunday observed that the participation of all the political parties is necessary to make the next national election free, fair and acceptable.The minister made the remarks while addressing a seminar to gather opinions of the businesspeople of the region on the draft of the Pure Food Bill 2013 at Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry auditorium.

Observing that the government’s only objective is to hold a free, fair and neutral election, he said, “The Prime Minister is sincere in this regard. For this, we want to hold talks.”

Razzaque also said the draft of the Pure Food Bill 2013 has already been formulated and it will be passed in the upcoming budget session of the parliament beginning on Monday. “The government is going to enact the law to ensure pure food for all as people are scared about food adulteration.”

MA Latif MP, senior CCCI director Syed Jamal Ahmed, Vice-chancellor of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Dr Mahfuzul Bari and deputy director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Zobair Ahmed, among others, addressed the seminar with CCCI president Mahbubul Alam in the chair.
