Ansarullah suspect Shihab on 5-day remand

Dhaka-Ansarullah Bangla Team suspected activist Shihab alias Saiful alias Sumon alias Shakil was on Thursday placed on a five-day remand in connection with his alleged attempt to kill publisher and blogger Ahmed Rashid Tutul.Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lutfor Rahman Shishir passed the remand order after hearing.
Detectives arrested the suspected member of the banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team in connection with the attempt to kill publisher and blogger Tutul. The arrestee was identified as Shihab alias Saiful alias Sumon alias Shakil.
DMP Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam, while addressing a press conference at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media centre said, a team DB police arrested two Chittagong unit top leaders of Ansarullah Bangla Team- Sayed Mohammad Mojahidul Islam and Ariful Islam Solaimani alias Arafat from Kamrangir Char of the capital on the night of June 13 this year.
On the basis of information given by the two detainees, a DB team arrested Shakil from airport bus stand area of the capital at about 8:30 pm on Wednesday, he added.
Shakil confessed to the law enforcers that he and his four associates were directly involved in the attack on publisher and blogger Ahmed Rashid Tutul and his two associates.
Earlier on October 31, last year, three people, including Shuddhashwar publisher Ahmed Rashid Tutul, were hacked by unidentified assailants at the office of the publishing house in the city’s Lalmatia area.-Court Correspondent
