Aslam on 2 days’ fresh remand

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka court on Wednesday placed BNP Joint Secretary General Aslam Chowdhury on a one-day remand each in two arson attack cases filed with Motijheel and Lalbagh Police Stations of the capital. The BNP leader, now behind the bar about an alleged plot with Israel to topple the present government, was shown arrested in the two arson cases on May 24. Both the cases are perhaps linked with the BNP-led alliance’s anti-government movement in January last year.
Magistrate Nurunnahar Yesmin placed Aslam Chowdhury on the remand after Detective Branch (DB) Sub-Inspector and Investigation Officer Anwar Hossain produced him to the court with a 10-day remand prayer in the case filed with Motijheel Police Station.
Again, Aslam was produced to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Nur Nabi in another case filed in connection with torching of a vehicle in the city’s Lalbagh Police Station on January 4 last year. Earlier, DB Inspector Emamul Islam, the IO of the case, sought a 10-day remand for Aslam while the judge granted remand for a day.
