Jail Supers warned for not releasing inmates after bail order

Dhaka-The High Court yesterday warned three people including superintendents of Dhaka Central Jail and Kashimpur Central Jail Part-1 for not releasing the three accused from jail even after bail order from the higher court. The three officials are: senior jail superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail Jahangir Kabir, superintendent of part-1 of Kashimpur Central Jail Subrata Kumar Bala and advocate-on-record Sufia Khatun.
The HC bench comprising Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice K M Kamrul Kader disposed of the mater by cautioning the trio.
However, the HC bench warned the advocate especially, saying it would take tough action against her if such misconduct is found from her in the future.
Earlier on June 9, the High Court asked the three to explain why they did not comply with the court order after three people accused in a money-laundering case were granted bail. It also sought written statements from them within three days over the matter.
On June the three persons submitted separate statements in written over illegal detention of Giasuddin, Md Aminur Rahman and Osman Gani in violation of the High Court’s order that granted them bail on May 8 and the prison authorities received the bail order on May 16.
They regretted for not complying with the HC order. Later, the HC bench fixed Juune 15 for delivering its order on the matter.
According to the case documents, the three accused were granted bail on May 8. The bail order reached the jail on May 16. But instead of releasing them, the prison authority told them that advocate-on-record Sufia Khatun has told them (jail authority) through a letter that she will file appeal against the bail order.
Later, Advocate Md Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan, Adilur Rahman Khan and Yousuf Ali, counsel for the detainees, brought the matter to the notice of the High Court.-STAFF REPORTER
