Awami League lawmaker Aslamul Haque Aslam on Tuesday submitted his and his wife Maksuda Haque’s wealth statements to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), says an ACC official.
The AL lawmaker from Dhaka-14 constituency submitted the wealth statements to the deputy director Syed Iqbal Hossain at the commission office at Segun Bagicha in the city.The commission on March 16 asked Aslam and his wife Maksuda Haque to submit their wealth statements. Earlier on March 5, the commission quizzed Aslam over disproportionately high growth of his wealth.
After facing the ACC interrogation, Aslam claimed that in his affidavit submitted before the Election Commission (EC) along with his nomination papers it was mentioned by mistake that he possessed 145 acres of land but the actual figure was 1.45 acres.
He also claimed that he possessed 1.45 acres of land based on a power of attorney provided by the owner of the land.
Aslam also told reporters that his tax lawyer made the mistake about his land in the affidavit he submitted along with nomination papers for the January 5 general elections.
The affidavit of Aslam submitted before the EC prior to 2008 parliamentary polls revealed that he had six acres of land. But in according to his affidavit submitted to the EC prior to the January 5 general polls he now possessed 145 acres of land and owned a couple of power plants installed on his land. – Staff Reporter
