Two given death penalty for killing schoolboy

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced two convicts to death for killing schoolboy Nafiz in Keraniganj of Dhaka in 2012.
Judge ABM Sajedur Rahman of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 passed the order in absence of the convicts.
The sentenced convicts are Mohammad Ali Hossain son of Surut Ali and Md Shafique, son of Mohammad Hanif of Puraton Sonakanda village in Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka.
The court acquitted another accused, Mohammad Khalil, son of Abdul Aziz of Banuartek under the same upzila in his crowded courtroom.According to the prosecution, Nafiz, 6, a play group student of Provati Bidyaniketan Kindergarten School and son of Arab Ali of Puratan Sonakanda village, had gone out to buy chocolates from a grocery nearby their house in the afternoon of February 21, 2012 and
did not return home.
On the same day, some unidentified people demanded a ransom of Tk 5 lakh to the family members of Nafiz over phone for his release.
Local people recovered Nafiz’s body near Mollahbari Mosque of the village on the morning of February 23, two days after he had gone missing.
On February 23, 2012, victim’s maternal grandfather Bachchu Mia filed a case with Kertaniganj Police Station against some unidentified people.

After examining 16 witnesses and documents, the judge handed down the verdict Tuesday. – Court Correspondent
