Bill places to extend speedy trial law for 5 years

An amendment to speedy trial tribunal law, 2002 has been placed in Parliament on Sunday to extend the validity of the law for another five years.
Minister for Industries Amir Hossain Amu, on behalf of state minister for home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal placed the bill before the House.Later, the bill was sent to the respective standing committee for further scrutiny and examination and submit report in the House within two days.
Meanwhile, Parliament on Sunday unanimously formed nine parliamentary standing committees on parliamentary affairs and different ministries. Of these, five committees are on parliamentary affairs and four on different ministries.
Besides, Business Advisory Committee headed by Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chawdhury has been reconstituted. The other members of the committee are—Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, opposition leader Rawshan Ershad, deputy leader in the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, HM Ershad, Suranjit Sengupta, Abul Hasnat Abdullah, Fazlul Karim Selim, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Moinuddin Khan Badal, Rashed Khan Badal, Fazle Rabbi Miah and chief whip ASM Firoze.
Library committee has been formed with deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah as its chairman while public accounts committee has been formed with Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir as its chief.
Ten-member special privilege committee has been constituted with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury as its chairman.
Meanwhile, parliamentary standing committee on assurance has been formed with Kazi Keramat Ali as its chairman, private members bills affairs with Jillul Hakim as its chief.
Parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of home affairs has been formed with Tipu Munshi as its chairman, public undertakings with Shawkat Ali, estimate with Abdul Motin Khasru and finance with Dr Abdur Razzak.
With this a total of 14 parliamentary committees on parliamentary affairs and ministries were formed.
Earlier, on February 5, five standing committees, including the Business Advisory Committee, were formed. The other committees are the standing committee on Rules of Procedure, Petition Committee, House Committee, and the standing committee on the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. – Staff Reporter
