BIMSTEC memorandum of Assoc signing approved

The cabinet in its weekly meeting on Monday approved a proposal for signing a memorandum of association (MoA) to establish BIMSTEC Centre for Wealth and Climate.
Bangladesh is a member of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).  Its headquarters will be set up in Dhaka.The original members of the regional organization were Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Nepal and Bhutan joined it later.
The third BIMSTEC summit will be held between March 1 and 4 in Myanmar, the Cabinet Secretary said. The Prime Minister will attend the summit.
A BIMSTEC Cultural Industries Commission will be formed to operate the organization’s cultural industry observatory, Musharraf said.
A metrological office under BIMSTEC will also be built, he said, adding that a MoA will be required for that purpose.
The approval of the member countries is needed prior to signing of the MoA.
Bangladesh has approved the MoA.
The Met office will provide correct and timely weather forecast, exchange researches among climate scientists and organise seminars for them.
The headquarters of the BIMSTEC Cultural Industries Commission will be set up in Bhutan and the first director will also be selected from the same country.
