Blogger Rajib murder convicts’ appeal verdict April 2

Dhaka – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court Monday fixed April 2 to declare its verdict on the appeals filed by the convicts in the murder of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider.On December 31, last year, a court of Dhaka, death sentenced two accused and awarded imprisonments of various terms to six others. Militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team chief Mufti Jasim Uddin Rahmani is one of the convicts. Five North South (NSU) University students are among the eight convicts. Redwan and Faisal were sentenced to death.
Absconding convict Redwanul Azad Rana did not appeal against his conviction, while other convicts appealed to High Court challenging the subordinate court’s verdict.
On February 15, 2013, blogger and Ganajagaran Mancha activist Ahmed Rajib Haider was hacked to death near his Mirpur residence in the capital.
The murder was occurred within 10 days of the Ganajagaran Manch’s movement demanding the highest punishment to the war criminals. – Special Correspondent
