BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Tuesday said their party wants a national consensus to eliminate militancy and terrorism from the country. Talking to reporters while visiting Ramakrishna Mission here, he alleged that the government is only resorting to blame game over a sensitive issue like extremism instead of taking effective and united efforts to check it.
“The government started doing the politics of blame game since the problem of secret killing has emerged. They’re still pursuing that bad game. We want a national consensus to be forged against militancy and terrorism. We believe extremism and militancy can be resisted through a national unity.” Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.
In the wake of a death threat to a Hindu priest at Ramakrishna Mission, a seven-member BNP delegation visited it and talked to its authorities. Last week, criminals claiming to be followers of militant group Islamic State issued the priest of the mission a threat in a letter saying he will be hacked to death with machetes if he continues to preach Hinduism in Bangladesh.
Mosharraf said the country’s people, especially Hindu community members, are worried over a death threat to a Ramakrishna Mission’s priest. “We’ve come here at the instruction of our chairperson to express our solidarity with the Mission. We strongly condemn such a threat.”
He said extremism has appeared in the country as a major problem for lack of democracy and a legitimate government here. “Militants and terrorists are making some people their targets and killing them. The perpetrators of the incidents remain out of touch as the government is busy suppressing opposition.”
He said when secret killings are taking place one after another the government is averting its responsibility only blaming the opposition without any investigation. Mosharraf called upon the government to take steps for arranging a fair and inclusive election under a neutral government to restore democracy in the country.
The BNP delegation members also include its standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman, joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokan, assistant organizing secretaries Advocate Abdus Salam Aazad, Jointa Kumar Kundu and assistant law affairs secretary Netai Roy Chowdhury.
