Force govt to sit with all parties: BNP

BNP on Tuesday urged the government to put up a united resistance by holding a convention with all political parties to tackle militancy, saying it will not be possible to get rid of the dangerous menace without opposition’s help. “You (govt) have already ruined the country, enough is enough… from this gathering of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, I call upon the government take steps to save the country from further destruction by militants and extremists,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He also said, “Sit with all political parties and put up a strong resistance through a convention. Now we don’t have now any other option to overcome this dangerous problem.” Fakhrul made the call while speaking at an iftar party arranged by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s Dhaka University unit at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

He alleged that the government has pushed the country towards a dark cave through its repression and misrule. “We must come out of it through a united movement for restoration of democracy and people’s right under the leadership of our leader Khaleda Zia.”

Mentioning that the country’s democracy has already been obliterated, the BNP leader said the government is now trying to destroy the democratic forces on the pretext of tackling militancy. “The government’s main intention is not to eliminate militancy, but to annihilate opposition parties in the name of curbing extremism.” Criticising the government for what he said the killing of suspected militants in crossfire, Fakhrul said the government is doing it to hush up the masterminds behind the secret killings and thus shift the blame on opposition.

He bemoaned that though the Dhaka University students had spearheaded all the country’s democratic movements in the past, now its students cannot even bring out a procession when the entire nation is under a serious misrule and repression. The BNP leader called upon the Dhaka University students to come forward to establish the rights of the country’s people through raising their voice and waging a strong movement against the current regime.
