BNP to place no bill over CG revival

BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Thursday said the opposition will join the upcoming budget session of parliament, but will not place any bill over the caretaker government system.“We’ll attend the House, but we don’t have any plan to table a bill seeking the revival of the caretaker government system,” he told reporters after placing wreaths along with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at the grave of party founder late president Ziaur Rahman, marking his 32nd death anniversary.
Moudud, also a BNP standing committee member, however, said the discussion can be held in parliament over who will head the caretaker government if the government passes a law keeping its past structure intact.
The former law minister alleged that the government is now silent about the dialogue to resolve the ongoing political crisis as it is not sincere about it.
“Had the government been sincere about talks, they would not have arrested our thousands of leaders and activists… they would not have arrested our central leaders from jail gates. In fact, they’ve no goodwill for dialogue as they don’t want it,” Moudud added.
He demanded the release of opposition leaders and activists for creating an environment for talks to find a solution to the political crisis.
Mentioning that protecting democracy through holding the next general election under a non-party caretaker government with the participation of all is a big challenge for the nation right now, Moudud said the government will have to come forward to this end. (Source: UNB)
