BNP’s Sylhet mayor candidate demands repolling

Accusing the ruling party of capturing many polling stations and rigging votes, BNP mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury on Monday demanded reelection to Sylhet City Corporation.

Ariful made the demand in an application submitted to the returning officer.

Talking to reporters, he said leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies captured most polling stations in the city and stuffed the ballot boxes.

The BNP candidate also said his polling agents were driven out from many centres.

He said the presiding officers and law enforcers were helping the ruling party supporter rig votes.

“Under the circumstances, I demand cancellation of the voting and reelection to Sylhet City Corporation,” Ariful added.

He, however, said he will remain there in the race till the last minute of the polling.

Ariful cast vote at Raynagar Government Primary School centre around 8am.
