Body of Sheikh Selim’s grandson to arrive from Lanka Tuesday

Dhaka, April 22 – The body of the ruling Awami League veteran leader Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim’s grandson Zayan Chowdhury, 8, will be brought home on Tuesday noon. Zayan was killed in the Sri Lanka attacks that claimed at least 290 lives and wounded more than 500 people.
Talking to the media, Information minister Hasan Mahmud on Monday said, “His body will be brought home at 11:30 am Tuesday and his Namaj-e-Janaza will be held at Banani club field after Asar prayers on that day,” he said.
Zayan went to Sri Lanka with his parents and brother on a trip and stayed at one of the hotels that underwent the attack. His father Moshiul Haque Chowdhury Prince was also injured in the attack and is
currently undergoing treatment in Colombo.
It will not be possible to bring back Prince right now as he is undergoing treatment there. He needs at least fifteen days to leave the hospital where he is being treated, family members sources said.
AL leader Sheikh Selim’s son-in-law Moshiul Haque Chowdhury and his grandson Zayan Chowdhury were taking food at a restaurant in Sri Lanka’s capital, where a bomb blast took place.
Sheikh Selim’s wife and a son rushed to Sri Lanka on Sunday.
Zayan’s grandfather, Sheikh Selim is a paternal cousin of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and is also a presidium member of Awami League.
Ruling AL leaders, ministers and relatives of Sheikh Selim have been visiting Zayan’s Banani house since yesterday morning and consoling the bereaved family. Zayan was living with his parents at Sheikh
Selim’s Banani residence.
AL leader Sheikh Selim’s Banani residence wore a sadden look at the death of Zayan who likes most playing cricket. None can accept the death of Zayan who used to keep the house joy and laughter with his activities and playing.
All family members of Zayan were the spectators of his cricket game, family members’ sources said.
Among others, Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, former shipping minister Shajahan Khan, former LGRD minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, science and technology affairs minister Yeafes Osman, LGRD minister Tajul Islam, AL presidium member Lt. Col. Retd Muhammad Faruk Khan and Health minister Jahid Malek visited the Banani house and consoled the bereaved family.
