‘Britain always wants to see fair polls in Bangladesh’

Dhaka -The United Kingdom always wants to see free and fair general elections in Bangladesh.
The visiting UK minister for Asia Pacific Alok Sharma said this during his meeting with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at letter’s Gulshan office in the city yesterday.Briefing reporters, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Aalmgir, who was also present at the meeting, said they discussed different bilateral issues including health, trade and education.
He said Khaleda brought the issue of getting UK visa from Bangladesh to notice of the minister and said the Bangladeshi people cannot get visa directly from Dhaka but they have to go to Delhi for it.
The BNP chairperson sought contribution of the UK in country’s development and measures to enhance relationship between the countries, he said.
She (Khaleda) also talked to the visiting minister about study of Bangladeshi students and prospect of training programmes in the UK
British High Commissioner to Dhaka Alison Blake was also present during the meeting.
BNP chairperson’s adviser Reaz Rahman was also present on the occasion. – Staff Reporter
