BNP will join election after having poll-time neutral govt: Kh Mosharraf

Dhaka – The BNP will take part in the next general polls only after establishing a neutral election-time government, says BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain. “There is no question of canceling the party registration as the BNP will join the next general election after establishing an election-time neutral government,” he said while speaking a discussion meeting at Jatiya Press Club.
He criticized the ruling party leaders for their comments that BNP must join the next polls in fear of losing its registration.
“There is noting lighter that what some people apprehending that the BNP would loose its registration if it fails to go to polls this time…Nobody would have registration either if BNP does not have it,” he said.
Jatiyatabadi Nagarik Dal, a pro-BNP platform, organized the meeting demanding immediate withdrawal of all cases against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son and party senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.
The former minister said the BNP is legally a democratic party and it believes in free and fair election. “BNP is ready to participate in the election anytime if it is held in a free, fair and credible manner,” he said.
He hoped that the BNP would form government after clinching victory in the next general election under the leadership of party chairperson and it will ensure justice against all the misdeeds of the government.
The BNP leader alleged that the government wants to weaken the party by reporting to repressive acts as it fears the party and the people.
He warned the government not to push the country towards an anarchic situation only to protect any personal and party interests.
Mosharraf further alleged that the Awami League leaders are carrying out campaigns demoralise BNP leaders and activists ahead of the next polls.
He said the government will not be able to convict Khaleda as the cases filed against her are ‘false and fabricated’.
