British MPs want pressure for prompt free, fair polls in Bd

The British House of Commons has recorded an early day motion (EDM) supported by 10 MPs noting with alarm the lack of free and open democratic process in Bangladesh.
The motion sponsored by liberal democrat Huppert Julian calls upon the British government to put pressure on the Bangladesh government to ensure that free and fair elections take place promptly and that disappearances and extra-judicial killings are ended and that freedom of expression is protected in Bangladesh.EDMs are formal motions for debate in the House of Commons for the MPs to draw attention to an issue, idea or event needing urgent action.
The motion that has been signed (supported) by two MPs each from the Conservative Party, the Labour Party and Liberal Democrats and one each from Social Democratic and Labour Party, Democratic Unionist Party, Respect and one Independent notes with alarm in particular the recent disappearance of Salahuddin Ahmed, spokesperson and joint-secretary general of the Bnp.
The contents of the motion published in the British Parliament websited says the motion ‘… further notes that there have been many other disappearances, including that of Bnp leader Elias Ali in 2012, who has still not been located.
The House of Commons motion further notes that the Human Rights Watch has said that the Bangladesh Government has a history of failing to investigate the enforced disappearance opposition members.
The EDM ‘further notes that there are repeated allegations of extrajudicial killings by the Bangladesh authorities, especially by the Rapid Action Battalion..’ to justify the demand of putting pressure by the British government on Bangladesh.
